Delicious Cranberry Mostarda Recipe – Holiday Must Have

As our favorite time of year comes to an end, we want to continue sharing our holiday favorites with you! Originally appearing on Chef Bikeski, this recipe is one you cannot miss – cranberry mostarda! It is a scrumptious concoction made of fruits, mainly cranberry, and mustard- a blissful mix of sweet and savory. If you’ve yet to try this duo, don’t judge it until you try it, it is delicious! Serve this delicious Cranberry Mostarda as a side, or bake it into the classic Torta di Mele (apple pie) for an extra flavorful twist.

Without further adieu, let’s start with ingredients (makes around 2 cups):

  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1/4 cup dried apricots, cut into 1/4” pieces
  • 1/4 cup Craisins, chopped
  • 1/4 cup candied orange peel, chopped
  • 1/4 cup candied lemon peel, chopped
  • 1/2 cup dijon mustard
  • 1 1/2 cups red wine (may we suggest our Giuseppe Lonardi Valpolicella Classico D.O.C.)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder or 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds

Start

With a large saucepan and stir the ingredients together.

Apply Heat

Apply medium-high heat to your pan to get the ingredients boiling. Once there, reduce the heat to low to get the mixture to simmer.

Finish

Allow the mixture to simmer for around 20 minutes (though your time may vary), allowing it to thicken and soften. A good rule of thumb is that the back of your spoon should be coated in the sauce rather than immediately dripping off. Once there, remove from heat.

Cranberry Mostarda is best marinated in it’s own juices overnight (or longer), but not too long, it stores for about a week in the refrigerator! Now would be a good time to add these ingredients to your holiday shopping list so you can enjoy it on Christmas day. Our new Giuseppe Lonardi Valpolicella Classico D.O.C. is exactly what you’ll need, and it’ll pair perfectly with holiday leftovers!
